In this respect, research may cover a wide range of topics, such as indigenous fauna and flora, indigenous knowledge systems, application of modern technologies, and other scientific advances, to benefit rural communities and, where possible, scaled up to the levels of patenting and down-streaming for commercialisation.
On the heritage side, the work of the Institute includes promoting indigenous ‘song and dance’; collection, displaying and sale of indigenous artefacts; and re-documenting the histories of indigenous communities from emerging evidence.
In addition, the Institute also encourages researchers and heritage experts to work with communities to empower them to address pressing challenges through cooperatives, business ventures and heritage activities. Overall, it is envisaged that through the support of the Institute, researchers and heritage experts will contribute immensely to the development of the country.
